Premier League champions Liverpool have been drawn alongside Ajax, Atalanta and Midtjylland in Champions League Group D. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, losers in the quarter-finals last season, were drawn in Group C with Porto, Olympiacos and Marseille.
Manchester United will play French champions and 2020 losing finalists Paris St Germain as well as RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir in Group H while Chelsea will meet Europa League winners Sevilla as well as Krasnodar and Rennes in Group E. Finally it’s the turn of Pot Four, where it becomes a bit less about the calibre of opponent and more about the length of the journey that becomes a major factor to consider. With Lokomotiv Moscow, Istanbul Basaksehir and Ferencvaros all included here, the English teams will be looking to avoid a long European night away.

UEFA FORWARD OF THE YEAR
The final positional gongs are dished out and it’s back to Bayern we go, with Robert Lewandowski - last season’s top scorer in Europe - handed the men’s award while new Chelsea Women signing Pernille Harder collects the women’s trophy for her similar efforts with Lyon last season.

This is turning into the draw from hell for Manchester United, who already face a tough ask against PSG and now have last season’s semi-finalists in RB Leipzig to join the 2020 finalists. If they draw one of Marseille or Lokomotiv Moscow, it will prove one of the worst outcomes possible for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Manchester City will be smiling so far, with Porto and Olympiakos joining them in Group C, while Liverpool and Chelsea are also likely to emerge relatively unscathed given what was at stake.
