Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mexico's coach, Javier Aguirre, will field an attacking side as he seeks a win which would secure a place in the last 16. Joahan Rodriguez and Jesus Arellano, suspended for the opening win over Croatia, will return. Ecuador make one change. With their captain and playmaker Alex Aguinaga out with a thigh strain, Ivan Kaviedes will partner Agustin Delgado in attack.
Group C: Costa Rica v Turkey Inchon, today, 10am (ITV1)
Costa Rica's coach, Alexandre Guimarães, has been experimenting in training in midfield. Wilmer Lopez could start, with all-time top goalscorer Rolando Fonseca dropping to the bench. Paulo Wanchope is receiving treatment for a knee injury. Turkey must replace the suspended Alpay Ozalan and Hakan Unsal, sent off against Brazil. Emre Asik and Ergun Penbe are the favourites.
Group H: Japan v Russia Yokohama, today, 12.30pm (BBC1)
Japan's captain, Ryuzo Morioka, suffered a bruised ankle and thigh during the opening draw with Belgium and is doubtful. The key midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata is a slight doubt with a twisted ankle. Russia may rush their playmaker Alexander Mostovoi back into action. The 33-year-old has been out for three weeks with a hamstring injury and missed his side's victory over Tunisia.
Group D: South Korea v United States Taegu, tomorrow, 7.30am (ITV1)
South Korea's two scorers in their fine win over Poland are doubtful. The striker Hwang Sun-hong hurt his back and the midfielder Yoo Sang-chul damaged a knee. Ahn Jung-hwan, who came on from the bench, may earn a start. The American captain, Claudio Reyna, who missed his side's brave victory over Portugal, could be ready to replace Pablo Mastroeni. Cobi Jones may step in for Earnie Stewart, who strained his groin. Gregg Berhalter could replace the veteran Jeff Agoos in central defence.
Group H: Tunisia v Belgium Oita, tomorrow, 10am (BBC1)
There are no injury reports from the Tunisia camp. Belgium's Glen de Boeck looks set to return to his side's defence after missing the draw with Japan with a foot injury but Nico van Kerckhoven, whose pulled hamstring kept him out too, is not likely to play.
Group D: Portugal v Poland Chonju, tomorrow, 12.30pm (BBC1)
Portugal's coach, Antonio Oliveira, may bring in the defensive midfielder Paulo Bento in place of the support striker João Pinto and move Rui Costa further upfield. Jorge Andrade could replace Jorge Costa in central defence. Poland's coach Jerzy Engel has also promised changes and may introduce Cezary Kucharski and Tomasz Rzasa.
