From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Okay, it's not that close just yet. And we don't even know how many teams will be playing in it or which countries it will be played in as Fifa continue to debate whether some matches will be played outside of Qatar.
We don't even know whether England themselves will be playing although with a 48-team expansion on the table it's safe to assume that even the famously flaky Three Lions will somehow stumble their way through qualification to take their place amongst the great, good and whoever qualifies from Oceania.
What we really don't know is who will be boarding that plane with Gareth Southgate, assuming again that the man who made us all whole again last summer hasn't gone the way of Messrs Eriksson, Capello and Hodgson by then of course.
This week sees our brave boys begin their next qualification campaign, for Euro 2020 this time. So with that in mind let's take a look at who we could all be cheering on in three-and-a-bit years' time.
