From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The World Cup in Brazil is coming into view and everyone is hoping this summer's carnival can take its place among some of the great tournaments of the past, but who will be the star of the show?

With 92 days to go until things kick-off, check out our latest instalment of 100 players to look out for at the competition below.

92. Sergio Romero (Argentina)

Argentina has never been famous for breeding world-class goalkeepers and along with their defence; it will be their primary concern in June. Romero, though, will head to Brazil with a season in France’s Ligue 1 under his belt after signing a year-long loan deal with AS Monaco.

He has the experience needed to be Argentina’s number one after winning a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, as well as appearing in AZ Alkmaar’s title-winning 2008/09 season. After transferring to Italian club Sampdoria, he contributed to their promotion to Serie A and was their first-choice stopper the following season.

Last year, however, he was loaned to Monaco – where he has failed to hold down a starting spot in between the sticks and will face stiff competition for the goalkeeping jersey from Crystal Palace’s Julian Speroni and Mariano Andujar when Alejandro Sabella names his starting XI for their opening game against Bosnia and Herzegovina on 15 June.

Did you know? Sergio’s brother Diego is a basketball player in Argentina, and played at Florida State University
