However, there is some confusion as to exactly how it will work, with England potentially being switched from Pot Four to Pot Two - a change that could lead to Roy Hodgson's side facing a tougher set of teams.
Pot One is made up of hosts Brazil and the seven highest teams in Fifa's World rankings. They are Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Uruguay and Switzerland.
World Cup Draw 2014 LIVE - Who will England face in Brazil?
Pot Two includes the African qualifiers and the remaining two South American teams Chile and Ecuador - however there are currently only seven teams in that pot.
Pot Three is made up of Asian and North American teams.
Meanwhile, Pot Four includes the remaining European teams that aren't included in Pot One. Currently, there are nine teams in Pot Four, so one will have to be moved to Pot Two.
It was thought that France, who are the lowest ranked among the European teams, would be switched. However, Fifa decided that was unfair and instead decided one of the teams would be picked at random - meaning England could be the side to move.
Although there remains a variety of different possibilities if England are moved pots, it does guarantee that they will play one of the South American sides from Pot One. The options are Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay - all rather daunting. The reason for this is Fifa rules stipulate there cannot be three sides from the same continent in any one group.
England manager Roy Hodgson has said he is relaxed over the possibility of England being moved pots, and says his main concern is where England play their games.
Pot One: Brazil, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Uruguay, Switzerland
Pot Two: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon, Chile, Ecuador
Pot Three: Japan, Iran, South Korea, Australia, United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras
Pot Four: Holland, Italy, England, Portugal, Greece, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Russia, France (one country to be selected at random to join pot two).
