England boss Gareth Southgate hails Henderson as midfielder reaches milestone

Gareth Southgate will have watched on this week with delight as many of his England players impressed in the Champions League semi-finals.

Firstly Liverpool eliminated Barcelona with a miraculous 4-0 victory at Anfield overturning the 3-0 deficit from the first leg.

Before Tottenham incredibly rallied from 3-0 down on aggregate after half-time in Amsterdam to draw the tie 3-3 and advance on the away goals rule.

Spurs realistically have five players Southgate will want to call on. Keiran Trippier, Danny Rose, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane, who is set to return from injury for the final, and Harry Winks, who should have recovered from his groin injury in time to be available.

While Liverpool will likely have three players (Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez) who should make the squad, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain likely to not be fit enough having recently returned from injury.

The Champions League final is on June 1, and those England players involved will have five days until the semi-final.

The Three Lions face the Netherlands in the semi-finals on June 6, with a potential final against Portugal or Switzerland on June 9.

Southgate may look to rest Liverpool and Spurs players until the final to ensure his side are not jaded.
