The German Football Association (DFB) has handed its bid book for the 2024 European Championship to Uefa, with Turkey expected to follow suit before Friday's deadline.

A DFB delegation, including former Bayern Munich and Germany captain Philipp Lahm, gave the dossier to Uefa general secretary president Theodore Theodoridis at the European governing body's headquarters in Nyon on Tuesday morning.

In a statement, DFB president Reinhard Grindel said: "Euro 2024 staged in the heart of Europe will enable all of the participants to be given the best possible support by their fans."

Germany previously hosted the tournament in 1988 and also staged the World Cup in 1974 and 2006.

Remembering his involvement in the latter, Lahm said: "I am certain that we will once again feel great enthusiasm and create a new spirit of solidarity at Euro 2024. We are cosmopolitan hosts, we have modern stadiums and good infrastructures. Football is at home with us."

DFB general secretary Dr Friedrich Curtius added that a key principle of Germany's bid, which is based on 10 cities, was to share "football knowledge" with all Uefa member associations being involved in the planning of the tournament.

Turkey are bidding to host their first major football tournament having failed with bids to host or co-host the 2008, 2012 and 2016 European Championship. The country also missed out on the 2020 Olympics.

Uefa will start evaluating the bids in the coming weeks, before writing reports on each by September. The executive committee will then meet on September 27 to vote on who has won the right to host the 17th edition of the tournament.

The 2020 tournament is being held in 12 cities in 12 different countries as a one-off to celebrate the competition's 60th anniversary. Wembley is hosting seven games, including both semi-finals and the final.
