Scotland vs England: Celtic Park will hold a minute's applause for supporter that died after the win against the Republic of Ireland

Celtic Park will hold a minute's applause before the game between Scotland and England tonight to mark the death of Nathan McSeveney, who died in hospital after falling down a stairwell during the match against the Republic of Ireland.

Mr McSeveny, 20, was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary on Saturday night after falling down three flights of stairs, according to reports, as the crowd was leaving the stadium following the 1-0 win.

Representatives from the Scottish Football Association have been in contact with his family to arrange a tribute.

"We have all been extremely saddened by the dreadful news since it was relayed to us after the game on Friday," Stewart Regan, Scottish FA Chief Executive, said.

"The Scottish FA intends to pay its own respects and we believe it is fitting that Nathan’s fellow Scotland supporters have an opportunity to pay tribute to one of their own at Celtic Park."

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan spoke of his shock at learning of Nathan's death.

"It took our breath away when we got the news on the bus. The SFA will do as much as they can do to help them through this difficult period."

Police, who said there were no "suspicious circumstances" said the Health and Safety Executive know of the death, with a report to be filed to the procurator fiscal.
