Roy Hodgson: Former England manager has no retirement plans and wants a Premier League post

The 68-year-old coach will go on holiday before deciding his next move

Roy Hodgson has no plans to end his managerial career following England’s early exit from Euro 2016, according to The Times.

The 68 year-old announced his resignation in the immediate aftermath of the catastrophic defeat to Iceland, but is keen not to go out on such a low point.

Making a reluctant appearance at a press conference 24 hours after the game, Hodgson was visibly upset, describing himself as “raw and fragile.” He now plans to take a holiday before evaluating where he goes next.

It remains to be seen whether his reputation has been irreparably damaged by England’s display in France, but reports suggest a club in the newly enriched Chinese League could make him an offer.

However, The Metro is reporting that Hodgson would prefer to turn down the money on offer in the far East, and move to a Premier League side.

However, with Southampton, Watford and Everton all having recently appointed managers, there are no obvious vacancies on the horizon.

Hodgson’s 40 years in management have seen him take charge of sides across the world.

Starting out with Halmstads in Sweden, he went on to have spells with over a dozen clubs, including Internazionale, Liverpool and Fulham.

As well as England, Hodgson has managed Switzerland and Finland at international level.
