From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Whether your name is Jose Mourinho, manager of Manchester United, or Joe Bloggs playing at being a boss on your PC, everyone loves a bargain in the transfer market.

From Andrea Pirlo to Robert Lewandowski there have been some great deals completed in recent years that involved no transfer fee at all - and Alexis Sanchez.

Despite his travails at Old Trafford, Sanchez’s move from Arsenal to Manchester United could end being significant if it prompts more players to take matters into their own hands and run down their contracts.

David De Gea, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Ander Herrera all began the season with their contracts expiring in 2019, meaning they can begin talking to other clubs from January about joining when their contracts expires.

But it's not just United who could see a number of players leave for nothing this summer. Jan Vertonghen, Diego Godin, David Luiz, Olivier Giroud and James Milner are just a few of the other high-profile names that could join them come the end of the season.
