Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It has been a week to forget for Memphis Depay.
First reports emerged that Manchester United were "fed up" with his attitude, and now it appears he was wearing the wrong shirt during the Netherlands 3-2 defeat by the Czech Republic on Tuesday, a loss which meant the Netherlands failed to qualify fo Euro 2016 next summer.
Depay was wearing a shirt in that game with the flag of Iceland, instead of the Czech Republic, embroidered on it. The Netherlands played Iceland last month, hence the text under the flags on Depay's shirt "3 September 2015".
All of Depay's team-mates had the correct shirt, with the right text and flag on it.
Earlier this week, former Netherlands international Youri Mulder said: "He played one good match for United, against Club Brugge [in the Champions League]," Mulder told NOS as quoted by Goal.
"In the Premier League he suffers, yet his attitude suggests that he is a big star.
"It seems that people at Manchester United are starting to get fed up with this."
