From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Southampton have come up with an ingenious way of announcing Luke Shaw's call-up to the England squad, by posting a Vine video of him answering a call from Roy Hodgson.

The six-second video, presumably staged, shows an incoming call on Shaw's iPhone from the England manager - a moment many young footballers can only dream of. The video, posted on the club's official Twitter feed, was accompanied by the message "He's in! Congratulations to @LukeShaw3, who has just been named in the #England squad. #saintsfc".

It is the first time that four Southampton players have been named in the same England squad, with Adam Lallana, Ricky Lambert and Jay Rodriguez joining Shaw for the friendly with Denmark next week.
