Luis Suarez knows every trick in the book, yet the Uruguay star's latest desperate attempt to gain an edge even confused himself.

The Barcelona star featured in the Copa America match against Chile, which was eventually won by La Celeste thanks to Edinson Cavani's strike.

But with the game goalless in the first half, Suarez rounded Chile goalkeeper Gabriel Arias and attempted to cut the ball back toward the six-yard box.

Yet the Racing shot-stopper palmed it away to concede a corner, which saw Suarez tap his hand furiously, appealing for a penalty.

It did not take long for the former Liverpool forward to realise Arias, comfortably inside his own area, could not possibly concede a penalty in that manner.

Suarez placed his hands behind his head, perhaps realising how foolish the appeal was.

The game also included Chile's Gonzalo Jara taking out a pitch invader.

The fan, carrying a backpack, fell to the turf and wa hauled away by security after Jara's trailing leg tripped him.

Suarez and Uruguay meanwhile are into the quarter-finals, where Peru await.

Victory there will see them take on the winners of Colombia vs Chile in the semi-finals.
