  • France are unbeaten in their last 10 games against Romania (W5 D5). However, four of their last five encounters have ended in draws.
  • Romania’s last victory against France was in April 1972. It was in a friendly in Bucharest (2-0).
  • France and Romania’s first ever encounter on French soil ended in a Romanian win, it was back in March 1967 in a friendly at the Parc des Princes (2-1). Since then, Romania have lost five of their seven away games against France (D2), scoring only two goals.
  • This will be France and Romania’s third encounter at the EURO, all in the group stages. The two previous games produced only one goal, France winning in 1996 (1-0) before a goalless draw in 2008.
  • France have won six and drawn one of their seven tournament games at the Stade de France (World Cup, Confederations Cup).
  • France are taking part in their ninth European Championship finals. They have won it twice: in 1984 as tournament hosts and in 2000. Only Germany and Spain have lifted the trophy on more occasions (3 each).
  • France won all five of their games the last time they hosted the EURO finals back in 1984. This was also the last time the host nation won the EURO.
  • Since (and including) 2004, only Ukraine in 2012 have won their opening game as tournament host or co-host.
  • France have won only one of their last eight games at the European Championships (2-0 v Ukraine on 15 June 2012), drawing two and losing five.
  • France have also failed to score in five of their last eight games at EURO finals.
  • Romania were knocked out in the group stages the last time the EURO was held in France (1984).
  • Romania have only won one of their 13 games at the European Championships. It came in June 2000 against England (3-2).
  • Romania have kept only one clean sheet in their 13 games at the European Championships (0-0 v France in June 2008).
  • Romania have never won their opening game at the EURO (D3 L1).
  • Romania had the best defensive record in the qualifiers, conceding only two goals in 10 games. 
  • Didier Deschamps is leading France to their second major tournament as manager, after the 2014 World Cup (quarter finalists). He was captain the last time France won the EURO in 2000.
  • Anghel Iordanescu is taking charge of Romania at a major tournament for the fourth time after World Cup 1994, EURO 1996 and World Cup 1998. His previous best performance was reaching the quarter-finals with Gheorghe Hagi & co at USA 1994.
