From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. Many a scout or coach will descend on France over the next five weeks seeking to uncover a cheap new talent, but the European Championship will also be the showcase for some of the most expensive players in the world.
Five of the 10 most expensive players of all time will be on show - Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, of Real Madrid, Manchester City pair Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne as well as the soon-to-be former PSG forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
But which other high-end players will be under pressure to perform and make good on the high fees their clubs shelled out for them?
We have gone through every country's squad and come up with the most expensive starting XI on show in France - with a bit of poetic license over the formation.
What do you think - have they all proved value for money? Were any of them too cheap or did their clubs pay over the odds?
