From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…

John Stones: The Manchester City centre-back came in for fierce criticism after misplacing a number of passes while trying to play out from the back against Scotland on Friday night. He has the perfect opportunity on Tuesday evening to learn from the kings of possession football, several of whom have played under Stones’ current manager Pep Guardiola at previous clubs.

Weird stat…

To find the last time that both England and Spain scored in a match against each other, you have to go all the way back to 1987. Since then there have been eight games, with the home side winning three and the Iberians winning the other five. However, England have won seven of the nine matches they have played at home against Spain.

Remember when…

England recorded their first victory over Spain in over 10 years after a Frank Lampard goal was enough to separate the sides in 2011. Spain were the reigning European and World Champions and manager Vicente Del Bosque put out a full-strength team at Wembley. Just two players from the starting XI for England that night are still in the national squad (Joe Hart and Theo Walcott).

Player to watch…

Vitolo: One of the more unfamiliar names on the Spain team sheet, the fleet-footed left-winger has been in fine form for club side Sevilla this season and represents one of the many new players that Spain have called up in recent times. He has scored three times already in just eight appearances for his national side.
