England came out of their international friendly against France with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday night, but there was little to boast about as their opponents looked to have been somewhat affected by the harrowing events in Paris last week.

Moving tributes were made before kick-off as fans of both nations joined together to sing La Marseillaise in honour of the 129 people killed in the terror attacks in the French capital last Friday.

But once the action began it was England who looked the more comfortable, with Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli seeing a chance to test his club colleague Hugo Lloris go begging when his touch let him down.

However, the 19-year-old made up for it with a beautiful long-range effort that took a slight deflection off French defender Laurent Koscielny to stretch away from Lloris’s grasp and fond the top-left corner of the net.

The lead was doubled immediately after the break as Raheem Sterling got the better of his Manchester City team-mate Bacary Sagna down the left. The youngster crossed to the back post where Wayne Rooney was waiting, and the captain readjusted his feet before blasting home to complete the scoring.

France grew into the game as Paul Pogba gave them much more impetus, while there were warm receptions for both Lassana Diarra and Antoine Griezmann following their traumatic experiences last week.
