Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Plymouth Argyle The Pilgrims manager Paul Sturrock said the club were reluctant to sell forward Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. The 21-year-old former Manchester United striker left Home Park to join Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday in a £1.5m move. "When Wolves indicated they were prepared to meet that £1.5m price, we were bound to allow Sylvan to talk to them," Sturrock said. "That is the way of the modern system. Everything favours the player and his agent. When Sylvan joined us, he and his agent were insistent that the £1.5m trigger price was written into the deal. If we hadn't agreed, he wouldn't have signed, it's as simple as that."

Sheffield United Manchester United midfielder Lee Martin has moved to Bramall Lane on loan for the rest of the season. Martin has spent three months on loan at Plymouth this season, who also expressed an interest in re-signing the 20-year-old. "I spoke to Sir Alex on Wednesday and he told me of the interest." Martin said. "There were a few other clubs interested, but it is good to know a big club like Sheffield United is interested in me."

Cardiff City The Bluebirds have signed the Blackburn goalkeeper Peter Enckelman on loan for the remainder of the season. The Finland international could go straight into the team to face Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.

Colchester United The U's have signed defenders Philip Ifil, 21, and Chris Coyne, 29, from Tottenham and Luton respectively.
