Three to thrive in the Second Division

Chris Roberts (Bristol City)

This well-travelled 23-year-old (previous clubs include Cardiff, Hereford, Drogheda and Exeter) will be heavily relied on to fill the void of Scott Murray's departure. Last season City finished third, and will need Roberts to fire for a repeat.

Sam Parkin (Swindon Town)

Still 22, the former Chelsea player started last season with a hat-trick against Barnsley and ended it with 26 goals and a burgeoning reputation. Should form a powerful strikeforce with Tommy Mooney and could launch a promotion push.

Chris Armstrong (Wrexham)

Brings loads of experience to a promoted side. Endured a torrid time at Bolton, but the former Spurs favourite should get among the goals here, which could be the difference between staying up or going back to the Third Division.

Three to thrive in the Third Division

Danny Allsopp (Hull City)

Australian brought on board from Notts County to get the goals and spearhead a possible promotion challenge. A busy striker with an ability to get among defenders, he could develop into one of the division's biggest draws.

Martin Smith (Northampton)

Arrived from Huddersfield with the brief to lead from the front. Relegated last season, the Cobblers have been busy in the transfer market, and should Smith, a former Sunderland graduate, do the business it could all end in cheers.

Manny Omoyinmi (Oxford)

Not much to him at just 5ft 6in, but the Nigerian has become quite a favourite at the Kassam Stadium. Despite his goals Oxford finished the wrong side of the play-offs last season, but if he stays on target they could reap more benefits this time.
