Round-up: Hughton wary as Newcastle keep sights on top flight

Newcastle United moved six points clear at the top of the Championship with a 3-0 home win over Preston on Saturday but manager Chris Hughton warned his players about thinking they were close to a return to the Premier League.

"We know we are one or two losses away – and the two other clubs we speak about, West Brom and Forest, are one or two wins away – from being a lot closer to us or being above us so we can't afford to [lose focus]," Hughton said. "Our preparation has to be the same and our mental attitude going into every game has to be the same because the league is too good for that."

Nottingham Forest are in second thanks to West Bromwich's defeat and a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough at the City Ground, their ninth successive home victory which broke a 30-year club record set by Brian Clough's side. "I am very proud to be Forest manager and of what we have done in winning these matches. But people have got a long way to go before they fill that man's boots," manager Billy Davies said.

Swansea, in fourth, won 1-0 at Derby thanks to Shefki Kuqi's 66th-minute goal in an ill-tempered game which had both teams reduced to 10 men. "I say we play against 14 and I don't want to explain," the Swansea manager Paulo Sousa said.
