Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Keane's first game as Ipswich manager stirred a team playing out the season in mid-table to a 3-0 win, which inflicted grave damage to Cardiff's play-off prospects. Watched by 22,264, their biggest opening-day crowd since 1971, the distinction of scoring the first goal of Welsh football's brave new, blue world fell to Keane's former Sunderland striker Michael Chopra, who also scored their third.
Cardiff fans' satisfaction was compounded by defeat for Swansea, who had looked to launch Paulo Sousa's reign with victory at Leicester when Ashley Williams scored but the League One champions struck twice in three minutes through Martyn Waghorn and Dany N'Guessan.
Sousa's successor at Queen's Park Rangers, Jim Magilton, needed a late equaliser to deny another ex-Rangers manager, Ian Holloway, an away victory on his debut in charge of Blackpool.
Reading's 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest was their eighth barren home game out of 10 since January.
