Ridsdale: I won't make same mistakes at Barnsley
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Peter Ridsdale yesterday promised to learn from his mistakes at Leeds and perform a rescue act at crisis club Barnsley. The former Elland Road chairman, blamed for United's decline to the brink of relegation, is poised to assume the chairmanship of Second Division Tykes in the next 72 hours.
Barnsley are in administration and narrowly avoided the drop to the Third Division last month. Ridsdale admits he made a series of blunders at Leeds, but pledged to act differently when he takes over at Oakwell.
He said: "We made mistakes on investment at Leeds. So we had to put the financial investment right and had to sell players. There were lots of off-field problems which distracted us more they should have. I've been talking to three clubs and the most advanced talks are with Barnsley as their financial situation requires the quickest attention. If a deal isn't done quickly, they won't be in the Football League next year. Survival is the first priority."
