Mark Hamill, most famously known for his role as Luke Skywalker in George Lucas' sci-fi epic Star Wars, has accidentally “pledged his allegiances” to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The American may have made his name as a force-wielding Jedi in a galaxy far, far away, but the fundamental basics of Twitter have seemingly caught the actor out.

After Wolves supporters on Twitter suggested he was a fan, this got a ‘like’ from Hamill in an apparent endorsement of the Championship side.

The club’s online fans naturally jumped to conclusions and when asked by Wolves Fancast if he was in fact a supporter, Hamill replied “I am now… All because I ‘liked’ a tweet from a #Wolves fan & they made me feel family. Very nice!”

Hamill added that he had initially like Wolves fans’ tweets because he “thought they meant the animal” and “everyone got so excited-I HAD to be a fan”.

Wolves confirmed to the BBC that Hamill was now a supporter.

"We sent a tweet to Mark, who replied to confirm that he has indeed now pledged his allegiance to Wolves - clearly he is a good judge!” the club said.

"The force is certainly strong at Molineux at the moment with the team making an excellent start to the season, and it was perhaps fitting that yesterday's game against Millwall finished Obi Wan-Nil.

"There is always room in the Wolf Pack for The Last Jedi, and there is the open invitation for Mark to attend a fixture at Molineux should his Landspeeder ever be passing."

Sat third in the Championship, with 13 points to their name, Wolverhampton Wanderers have made a promising start to the new season.

The new-found support of Luke Skywalker will undoubtedly add a spring in the step to Nuno Espirito Santo’s men as they bid to return to the Premier League for the first time in six years.
