Junior Stanislas has apologised after an on-field shoving match with Bournemouth teammate Sam Surridge in their win against Wycombe Wanderers.

The winger gave Surridge a dressing down after the latter took a shot that went wide of the far post in injury-time of their 1-0 Championship win on Tuesday.

Stanislas had been free with plenty of space on the edge of the box when Surridge had taken the shot and called out the forward for going for goal instead of passing.

This led to a physical confrontation as the pair shoved and grabbed each other’s shirts during a heated verbal exchange.

Colombian teammate Jefferson Lerma dived in to separate the duo while Dan Gosling approached Stanislas to question his need to take his anger out on his teammate.

Referee Matt Donohue also had to intervene to calm the situation and speak to the pair and Bournemouth captain Steve Cook about the incident.

A day later, Stanislas has apologised for his actions and condemned his behaviour as a bad example for younger players.

On Instagram, Stanislas posted: “The opinions of people does not bother me in the slightest!

“Having said that, last night I let my frustrations and emotions get the better of me. So to all the kids who were watching, the ones in the academy I spend time with a few times a week, my team-mates and staff I apologise to you all.

“I strive to be an example for young people and this was not a good example at all. Me and @samsurridge spoke and put this to bed straight after the game. It's all love as always #afcb.”

After the game, Bournemouth manager Jason Tindall believed the incident to be based on passion in the moment.

He said: “It's not what you want to see but at the end of the day, no hard feelings.

“I've spoken to them in the changing room just now and they're fine. The passion probably got the better of the situation and it's no different from what goes on up and down the country on training grounds every day.”

Stanislas had scored his sixth goal of the Championship season to take the win, four minutes after Wycombe’s Alex Pattison was sent off, allowing the Cherries to join Norwich at the top of the table on 37 points.
