Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Was it a fair result? Neither side showed too much ambition or quality, so yes. Both teams looked jaded and lacking in ideas, which was a bit worrying until news of Sheffield Wednesday’s defeat came through and cheered both sets of fans up at the final whistle.
What next for the Tykes? It’s now seven games without a win and four draws in a row, three of them goalless, so at the moment a goal would be nice. Mark Robins is looking for summer recruits and they are much needed to avoid another season of struggles. ( Ollie Oakwell, Barnsley fan)
Bristol City 1 Swansea 0
How is Keith Millen doing? It’s now four wins and two draws in our last six games, so very well is the answer and he must be in with a big chance of getting the job on a permanent basis in the summer. I can hardly even remember Gary Johnson!
Who was the star man? Nicky Maynard, a striker who has hit top form in recent weeks. He’s got seven goals in his last seven games now and is fulfilling the potential that we paid Crewe more than £2million for in the summer of 2008. ( Robin07, Bristol City fan)
Cardiff 0 Reading 0
A good point for City? I guess so as it takes us ever nearer to ensuring a play-off place, but City never really got going and were stifled by the Royals, so much so that Michael Chopra was replaced at half-time and Jay Bothroyd had a tough afternoon.
Can City win the play-offs? We managed to beat Swansea and draw with Nottingham Forest in our previous two games, so we shouldn’t have too much to fear, but you always worry that a smaller squad than our rivals could end up being crucial and very costly. ( Northern Bluebird, Cardiff fan)
Middlesbrough 1 Sheff Wed 0
Boro better next season? Gordon Strachan has taken time to settle in and we could yet make the play-offs, but give it another 12 months and we should be ready to make it back to the Premier League, as long as we get the right men on board in the summer transfer market.
Can Scott McDonald fire for Boro? He’s now got three goals in his last six games and is showing glimpses of the class which made him a hit in Scotland, but the jury is still out. At least he’s an improvement on Leroy Lita though. ( Boro4ever, Middlesbrough fan)
Newcastle 4 Blackpool 1
Who can stop the Magpies? Definitely not Blackpool, who might make the play-offs, but they were totally outclassed on Tyneside. The title is very much in our sights and will be a fitting finale to a superb season for Chris Hughton and the boys.
Who was the star man? Kevin Nolan put in another great shift in midfield and got on the scoresheet again, but Danny Guthrie caught the eye this time. He was everywhere, got his tackles in and also delivered several superb set-pieces which caused havoc in the Seasiders’ defence. ( mike themagpie, Newcastle fan)
Nottm Forest 3 Ipswich 0
Were Town well beaten? In the end, yes, but we had chances in the first half before Forest got their noses in front. However, once we fell behind there was only one team in it and by the final whistle we could have few complaints.
Where will Roy Keane look to improve? Keano called us naive after this defeat and was spot-on that we need some more firepower up front to do better next season. No-one has reached double figures in the league and that is a real problem which has to be rectified in the summer. ( Portman Pete, Ipswich fan)
Peterborough 1 Leicester 2
Did Gary Johnson make an impact? Well the result may have been the same, but there looked to be a pick-up in effort and commitment as the players looked to impress another new boss. The sooner he can get some confidence into the players the better. ( 1983Posh, Peterborough fan).
Play-offs next for the Foxes? There’s still work to do, but we should get there now, having won our last two games without finding the fluency we had earlier on in the campaign. Whether we are ready to get back into the Premier League is another matter altogether. ( Phil the Fox, Leicester fan).
Preston 3 Scunthorpe 2
Where will Preston finish? Mid-table is about right as we are a middle of the road team. Hopefully Darren Ferguson will be given a few quid to spend in the summer then we can have a real crack at promotion next season. ( BananaMan, Preston fan)
Will the Iron stay up? If we defend like we did in the last 10 minutes we haven’t got a prayer. Nigel Adkins looked to have turned it around in recent weeks but now I’m not so sure. It’s going to go right to the wire. ( MarshLad, Scunthorpe fan)
Sheff Utd 1 Coventry 0
Where now for the Blades? Well I suppose a win should be gratefully accepted after five games without a victory, but it’s hard to be too upbeat after another lacklustre display, against a Sky Blues side who have now gone eight games without a win themselves.
What’s needed for next season? Having somehow managed to get quite close to the play-off places this season, we need to bring in some proven goalscorers next term. Darius Henderson is a useful battering ram, but a little more craft in the box is a necessity. Will Kevin Phillips be available? ( bladesofglory, Sheffield United fan)
Watford 1 Plymouth 0
Was it the right result? We were easily the better team and I would have been disappointed by anything other than all three points. The only surprise was that we only won by a 1-0 scoreline as they offered absolutely nothing. ( Stinger88, Watford fan)
Are Plymouth going down? This game was our last chance to start the great escape and the players didn’t turn up. We’re preparing for trips to Exeter, Brentford and Yeovil next season so I’d better dust off the map! ( AdmiralJack, Plymouth fan)
