Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Barnsley 1 Sheffield Wednesday 2

Who was the star man? Only one man stood out for us and that was Emil Hallfredsson. He looked as though he was the only player who knew what he was doing and then he was inexplicably subbed! The rest of the midfield played like strangers. Ryan Shotton was also uncharacteristically poor and Daniel Bogdanovic missed two sitters when clean through.

Did the visiting fans make an impression? Well just over 4,000 from a 'big club' isn't a great turn-out but I'm sure they enjoyed their cup final! (Rob Miles, barnsley-mad.co.uk)

Blackpool 2 QPR 2

Was the scoreline fair? We should have won and it was points dropped but to be fair I thought QPR were the best side I have seen at Bloomfield Road this season. They beat us 3-1 last season and this just shows how far we have come under Ian Holloway. (fyldeflyer, Blackpool fan)

Happy with the point? How the players found the character to come back twice and earn a point with the shambles going on at the club at the moment was amazing. It's just a shame that the people in charge don't seem to have the same commitment. (Loftus_Lad, QPR fan)

Bristol City 4 Preston North End 2

Can City reach the play-offs? Not until we learn how to defend until the final whistle. Although this was a good display and a fine result, we still managed to concede a stoppage-time goal yet again. It's so frustrating.

What next for City? Two big, big games against Cardiff City, the first in the FA Cup and then the more important clash in the Championship. Revenge after the 3-0 defeat against them in August is most definitely on the agenda. (filtonflyer, Bristol City fan)

Doncaster Rovers 2 Watford 1

Who was the star man? Sean O'Driscoll, just for still being here. Most Rovers fans thought he'd have been at Old Trafford for his first game in charge of Burnley today, so they made this game a celebration from start to finish.

Did Rovers play well? It was one of our best performances of the season. We played some really sparkling stuff at times in difficult conditions. Gareth Roberts' goal was a real screamer and capped a great afternoon. (bellevue70, Doncaster fan)

Ipswich Town 3 Coventry City 2

Was it a fair result? What a crazy last few minutes! Nobody in the ground at 4.45 thought it would finish at anything other than 2-1. For the sizeable amount of fans who left early, to find out they missed not one but two goals must have been surprising to say the least! A real drama of emotions for those of us still there!

Who was the star man? It was fantastic to see Pablo Counago back in the squad and even better to see him get on the scoresheet with such a great finish. (Justin Johnson, BluesWeb.co.uk)

Notts Forest 2 Reading 1

Who was Forest's hero? Lee Camp was superb. He made several great saves in the closing stages as Reading threatened to snatch a point, including a fine stop to deny Brian Howard from the penalty spot.

What were the visitors like? For most of the match they were strangely subdued considering how good they'd been at Liverpool in midweek and appeared to be drained of all confidence. Howard's half-time introduction lifted them though and they were much better in the second half. (Forestphil, Nottingham Forest fan)

Peterborough 0 Derby County 3

Was it a fair result? What a difference a week makes. From the horror show against Scunthorpe, we've now reached the fourth round of the FA Cup and thrashed Peterborough and we should have scored even more. Peterborough ran around a lot but are doomed.

Were the red cards deserved? Both dismissals were clear-cut. The first was a shocking two-footed tackle and the second was a definite penalty. But we should have been three goals ahead before the first red card. (loyalfan, Derby County fan)

Plymouth 0 Crystal Palace 1

Was it a fair result? Argyle could have played all night without scoring so in that respect the scoreline was more than fair. The only debate was whether Palace deserved more goals after a solid performance.

What's the problem at Home Park? Only Reading have a worse home record and the attendance reflects that. We look dangerous on so few occasions it's disheartening. Rory Fallon hasn't looked threatening for a few weeks and why Ashley Barnes got the nod ahead of Alan Gow and Bradley Wright-Phillips is anyone's guess. (LittleGreenie, Plymouth fan)

Scunthorpe 1 Cardiff City 1

Can Cardiff win promotion? Any point away from home is welcome and this was a particularly good one as we really had to battle to earn it. Hopefully we can build on this result now and cement our place in the play-offs as I think the top two is beyond us. The health of Peter Whittingham is key – if we lost him we'd drop like a stone.

Was it a fair result? We got a lucky deflection for our equaliser and they could easily have won a penalty in the last minute so I'll certainly take a draw. (northernbluebird, Cardiff fan)

Sheffield United 1 Middlesborough 0

Who was United's star man? It has to be Richard Cresswell and not just because he scored the goal. Goalscorers always make the headlines but he did a bit of everything - crossing, passing, great positioning and the goal. (Simonsays, Sheffield United fan).

How were Boro's new boys? I saw enough from Barry Robson, Willo Flood and Chris Killen to suggest that they will all be good signings. I've got to question Gordon Strachan's decision to drop Adam Johnson to the bench though as he is one of our better performers. (Wilton, Middlesbrough fan).

Swansea 1 Leicester 0

What next for Swansea? Despite amazingly now being fourth we desperately need a new striker. We've scored less than a goal a game and are grinding out the results, 1-0 is definitely our preferred scoreline. We need the new Jason Scotland and I fear Gorka Pintado isn't that, despite his efforts today.

Are the home fans content? Delirious. There were fears that after Roberto Martinez left us last summer we'd lose our way but, despite a lack of goals, we've carried on building on the foundations he left us. (vetchmemories, Swansea fan)
