Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Dutch legend Edgar Davids has completed his shock move to npower Championship side Crystal Palace.
The 37-year-old former Holland midfielder has come out of retirement to sign a pay-as-you-play deal with the Eagles.
Davids, who counts AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Tottenham among his former clubs, last played a competitive match two years ago for Ajax.
The move rekindles memories Palace's coup of the 1990s when they managed to bring Italy international Attilio Lombardo to Selhurst Park.
The Eagles confirmed the deal on the day they officially came out of administration.
Davids told the club's official website, www.cpfc.co.uk: "It's an exciting time for the football club, and it is an exciting time for me. I just want to enjoy football and show what I can do."
Davids will be present at Selhurst Park tomorrow for the visit of Ipswich but needs to build up his match fitness before making his debut.
Palace manager George Burley added: "We spoke to Edgar in the week and the boy felt enthusiasm.
"He has been training with Ajax but now it's good to see us agree terms with him."
