Aston Villa paid an emotional tribute to former player Dalian Atkinson with a minute's applause during their Championship draw with Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.

Roberto di Matteo's men were relegated to the second-tier last season and have endured a difficult start to life outside the Premier League but their plight was overshadowed by tributes for Atkinson.

The 48-year-old died when he was Tasered by police while visiting his father in Telford on Monday.

Atkinson was reportedly suffering from a number of health issues and had a weak heart when he was hit by the weapon at around 1.30am.

Atkinson played for Villa between 1991 and 1995, bagging 38 goals - including a famous strike against Wimbledon.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating his death.
