Steve McClaren predicted a weekend of celebration in Derby following the biggest victory over their east Midlands rivals, Nottingham Forest, for 116 years. Craig Bryson scored his club's first hat-trick against Forest since Steve Bloomer's treble in 1898, with Jeff Hendrick and Johnny Russell sealing a 5-0 Championship home win. "We knew if we kept doing the right things the end product would come and there's no better way to do it than in front of 33,000 fans." said McClaren, whose side had not scored in just over six hours prior to yesterday's derby triumph. "This is for the fans, they will have a great Saturday night, recover Sunday and probably do it again Sunday night and have a good day at work on Monday. Everything went for us and our football got us the goals."
Vokes spot on for Clarets
Sam Vokes converted a second-half penalty for his 21st goal of the season as Burnley maintained their 10-point lead over Derby and Queens Park Rangers in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League. Ashley Barnes and Michael Kightly were also on target in a comfortable 3-0 win against Charlton at The Valley. The result means that Burnley are unbeaten in their last 15 matches and leaves Charlton deep in relegation trouble.
Kilgallon pegs back Foxes
Matt Kilgallon scored his first Blackburn goal as Leicester City were held to a 1-1 in a pulsating game at Ewood Park. The Championship leaders looked well on their way to a first win at Ewood Park since 1997 when Jamie Vardy tapped in, but a glancing header from Kilgallon just before half-time ensured that Blackburn avoided a third straight home defeat.
Waghorn's Wigan cheer
Wigan Athletic returned to winning ways with a 2-1 home victory against Watford and strengthened their grip on a play-off place. Lewis McGugan put the visitors ahead after 36 minutes, but Jean Beausejour equalised before half-time. The FA Cup semi-finalists, who were held to a 3-3 draw by Yeovil on Tuesday, claimed the winner within 10 minutes of the restart when Martyn Waghorn fired home.
