Blackpool pitch invasion causes pre-season match against Lancaster City to be abandoned

The fan protest that caused Blackpool’s final game of the Championship campaign last season to be abandoned returned at the club’s first pre-season game after angry supporters once again stormed the pitch in protest against the club’s owners.

Blackpool were relegated to League One last season amid turmoil after fans turned on club chairman Karl Oyston. Over 200 fans stormed the Bloomfield Road with the game locked at 0-0, leading to the Championship match to be cancelled just minutes after half-time.

Unfortunately for the club, a fresh start didn’t bring a fresh approach, and Blackpool’s pre-season game at Lancaster City had to be abandoned when a small group of supporters took to the pitch to once again aim their protests at Oyston.

Blackpool, who only have 10 first-team player listed on their club website, were leading 2-1 at the time, and the incident comes after the club were charged by the Football Association for "failing to ensure that no spectators or unauthorised persons were able to encroach onto the pitch area".
