From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Indeed, it could have been worse for Malky Mackay's side as they fell behind to Conor Sammon's close-range finish with 15 minutes to go before Craig Noone headed an equaliser in the 82rd minute.
Watford moved into second place in the table after coming from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1. Substitute Fernando Forestieri, who missed several good chances in the draw at Wolves on Friday, struck twice within 10 minutes in the second half after Michail Antonio had given the visitors the lead in the 19th minute following Watford goalkeeper Jonathan Bond's error.
Brighton in sixth were held to a 0-0 draw by bottom club Bristol City and lost striker Craig Mackail-Smith to a potentially serious Achilles tendon injury. However, Middlesbrough, who started the night in seventh, failed to build on Saturday's fine win over Cardiff as late goals from Alan Lee and Daniel Ward saw them crash to a 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield after Scott McDonald had given the visitors the lead in the 78th minute.
Boro have been overtaken by Nottingham Forest who continued their charge for a play-off place under Billy Davies but they made hard work of beating nine-man Ipswich at the City Ground, substitute Lewis McGugan's 84th-minute deflected goal clinching a 1-0 win. Earlier Lee Martin and Richard Stearman had been sent off for the visitors.
Blackpool finally scored under new manager Paul Ince, Kirk Broadfoot' s header from a Neal Eardley corner to earn a 1-1 draw at Birmingham ending a run of four goalless games.
Wolves scrambled clear of the bottom three with their first victory under Dean Saunders since he was appointed in January. David Edwards and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake secured a 2-0 win at fading Millwall, Ebanks-Blake scoring with a stunning overhead-kick.
