Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Captain Wayne Rooney, Radamel Falcao, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw all start.
Van Gaal said about the FA Cup: "You never know what might happen in a cup match. You have to win because you will be out if you lose. We have to beat Yeovil, but every team in England wants to beat Manchester United so it will be difficult. Everything about playing a lower league team – the pitch, the stadium – will be difficult."
Defender Phil Jones, who is not in the squad today, added: "It won't be an easy game down there. Some people might think we'll go and walk all over Yeovil but it won't be like that at all. It will be a difficult game for us but we'll prepare right. The FA Cup is a massive competition, especially for the British lads who grew up watching it, but everyone wants to play in it."
Man Utd XI: De Gea, Smalling, McNair, Blackett, Rafael, Fletcher, Herrera, Rooney, Shaw, Wilson, Falcao.
Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, Anderson, Lingard, Mata, Januzaj, Di Maria.
