Angel Di Maria was sent off in the FA Cup quarter-final tie between Manchester United and Arsenal in strange circumstances.

The Argentina international was shown two yellow cards within seconds of each other.

The first came for a needless dive under minimal contact from Aaron Ramsey. Then after referee Michael Oliver showed him the yellow card, a clearly frustrated Di Maria put his hand on the back of the official to grab his shirt

Applying the letter of the law, Oliver then booked Di Maria again - leading to a red card and early bath.

The double booking will compound what has been a frustrating start to Di Maria's Manchester United career following his £59.7m British record transfer from Real Madrid last summer in which he has struggled for form and goals.

Di Maria is now certain to miss Manchester United's next match, which is at home against Tottenham.
