From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Newcastle had levelled the game at 1-1 in injury time through Salomon Rondon, only for Matty Cash and Gil Dias to score in the final minutes for the hosts. Rafa Benitez’s side appealed for a penalty at 2-1 for goalkeeper Luke Steele’s challenge on Ayoze Perez but to no avail.
Daryl Murphy had put Forest ahead in the second minute against his former club. Benitez made seven changes to the side which lost 2-1 to Chelsea on Sunday but his team slipped to a third defeat in four matches this season, with Premier League champion Manchester City up next on Saturday.
Everton had no problems in advancing as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored twice after Gylfi Sigurdsson had put the team ahead in a 3-1 victory over Rotherham.
Watford also beat a Championship side, securing a 2-0 win over Reading despite manager Javi Gracia resting all 11 players from Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace. Isaac Success opened the scoring for Watford from close range eight minutes before the break, his first goal since October 2016. Debutant Domingos Quina extended the visitors’ lead 17 minutes into the second half as the Hornets maintained a perfect start to the season.
Milwall came from behind twice to beat League One side Plymouth 3-2, with substitute Aiden O’Brien scoring the winner from 35 yards with a minute remaining.
