Liverpool will be without Adam Lallana for Saturday’s FA Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion after the midfielder suffered an injury setback.

The 29-year-old missed the first four months of the season after suffering a thigh strain during the summer and been gradually re-introduced into the side by Jurgen Klopp in recent weeks.

However, after just seven appearances, Lallana is set to sit on the sidelines again having suffered a slight muscular tear.

“Adam Lallana has a little issue which I think, pretty sure, keeps him out for the next game,” Klopp said on Friday. “It is not a big one but it is how it is when you have a long injury.

“Adam had a long injury and then there comes a few things because he needs time again to adapt to the intensity of a Premier League game,” the Liverpool manager added.

“We tried to be careful with that but obviously so far it didn’t work very well.”

Lallana has started just once for Liverpool this season, in the 2-1 victory over Burnley on New Year’s Day.

James Milner is also struggling with a dead leg, meaning Klopp will go into Saturday’s fourth round tie a little light in midfield.

Jordan Henderson, the Liverpool captain, could however return after a month-long layoff with a hamstring problem.
