It appeared that for a moment in the 93rd minute of the FA Cup semi-final between Aston Villa and Liverpool, Dejan Lovren thought he was Steven Gerrard.

With the Anfield side desperately seeking an equaliser against Tim Sherwood's team, they needed someone to be a hero.

Everyone looked towards Gerrard, the captain who on so many occasions has rescued his team, including in the FA Cup with an injury strike against West Ham in the 2006 final.

But rather than their skipper attempting to write another chapter in his career of Hollywood moments, up stepped Lovren, the centre-back with just one goal to his name all season.

With the ball breaking free miles out from goal, Lovren absolutely walloped it. Predictably, rather than find the top corner of the net the ball nestled itself somewhere high in the stands behind Shay Given's goal.

It was the moment that spelt the end of Gerrard's dream of finishing his Reds career with an FA Cup final appearance at Wembley. Instead, he'll end his Liverpool career at Stoke.
