Your support makes all the difference.West Bromwich Albion’s Chris Brunt appears to have been struck by a coin thrown by supporters of the West Midlands club after their defeat to Reading.
The 31-year-old was incensed when his efforts to appease angry fans following the FA Cup fifth round loss at the Madejski Stadium was greeted with one electing to throw an object, appearing to be a coin.
Brunt approached the away end, removing his shirt, before being hit. After picking the object up, the Northern Ireland international seemed to suggest it had hit his face, below his left eye.
Footage filmed by supporters has shown Brunt confronting supporters, asking: “Who threw that? Who f****** threw that?”
After the game, Brunt told BBC Sport: "I was walking towards our supporters at the end, and they thought it was okay to throw a coin at their own players. I'm disgusted.
"If they want to come forward and say they don't like what they've seen then that's fine. Fans are frustrated we were 1-0 up and lost.
"They paid a lot of money to come, but a small minority spoilt it. There were young kids there. I was absolutely disgusted and ashamed."
The Baggies had just fallen to a shock 3-1 defeat to Championship side Reading, courtesy of goals by Paul McShane, Michael Hector and Lucas Piazon after Darren Fletcher’s opener. Images have since revealed Brunt picked up a facial injury as a result of the incident.
But the result looks like it may become overshadowed by the unsavoury scenes at full-time involving a player who has been with the Premier League outfit for almost ten years.
Some supporters can be seen trying to calm the situation, calling for Brunt to approach the away contingent, but the fury was clear for all to see on the winger’s face.
BBC Final Score captured the moment the object hits Brunt.
