From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Eden Hazard's first half goal from the spot to win the FA Cup gives Chelsea's season some gloss, while Jose Mourinho finishes trophy-less in his second season at Manchester United.
After dominating the opening exchanges, Hazard brought down Cesc Fabregas' wonderful pass and drove into the box. In his wake was Phil Jones who slide in to make a last-ditch tackle but brought down the Chelsea midfielder, who then send David de Gea the wrong way to score from the spot.
After the break Manchester United played with much more purpose and went close through Jones, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba, but they could not find a way to goal.
VAR was used for the first time in an FA Cup final to confirm that Alexis Sanchez was offside when the flag was raised against him after he tapped in from close range. Thibaut Courtois had saved well from Phil Jones’ header but palmed the ball to Sanchez who put the ball in the back of the net from an offside position.
