From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Robbie Fowler scored twice for Cardiff as they put West Bromwich to the sword in an incredible first half at The Hawthorns last night. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Trevor Sinclair also scored as the Welsh side cruised to a 4-1 half-time lead and an eventual 4-2 victory.

The former Liverpool man's first first came when Stephen McPhail whipped in a cross and Fowler swept the ball into the top corner from 12 yards. The strike ended Albion's impressive record of over nine hours without conceding at home Hasselbaink fired an unstoppable second from fully 30 yards midway through the first half before Fowler scored from the spot. Sinclair added a fourth from close range. Ishmael Miller grabbed two for Albion either side of the break to put a respectable slant on the scoreline.

At Kenilworth Road, League One's Luton upset Charlton of the Championship 3-1, thanks to extra-times efforts from Matthew Spring and Drew Talbot.

Sheffield United also earned a fourth-round place after crushing Morecambe 5-0. Billy Sharp and Luton Shelton each hit a double at Bramall Lane with the returning midfielder Lee Hendrie adding to the rout.
