Pep Guardiola’s team were joined in the quarter-finals by Manchester United and Liverpool a day later, with all three of the heavyweights kept apart in the quarter-final draw.
Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa also reached the last eight, while outside of the Premier League sides, Oxford and Colchester United remain involved after the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Wolves and Sunderland crashed out.
Despite most teams putting out much-changed lineups for the fourth round fixtures, there was plenty of entertainment on show as well as promising youngsters to admire – and the odd fringe senior pushing their claim for game-time.
