Manchester City survived some late Aston Villa pressure to win the Carabao Cup at Wembley for the third year in a row.
City beat Arsenal 3-0 last year but did not have it as easy at Wembley this time round, despite making a strong start.
As usual it was Sergio Aguero who broke the deadlock, lashing Phil Foden’s smart cutback beyond Orjan Nyland.
And the final looked as good as over when Rodri powerfully headed home Ilkay Gundogan’s corner – which should never have been given to City as the ball came off the German midfielder last.
But Mbwana Samatta made a game of it when he scored a fine diving header seconds before the half-time whistle. Villa then came close to snatching a late equaliser and forcing the game into extra time, only for Bjorn Engels’s header to be tipped onto the post by Claudio Bravo. Here are our player ratings.
