From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…

Andre Schurrle: Julian Draxler is doubtful to start after limping off mid-way through Wolfsburg’s 2-1 win over Monchengladbach. The Bundesliga side will look to the former Chelsea forward Schurrle, who scored a hat-trick just eight days ago against Hannover 96, to step up and be the creative player.

Weird stat…

7: Gent have scored in every of their seven Champions league game so far this season.

Remember when…

Wolfsburg beat Manchester United 3-2 in the group stages of this year’s Champions League, defender Naldo scored twice to qualify for the knock-out stage.

Player to watch…

Laurent Depoitre: The Belgian striker is Gent's joint-leading scorer with twelve goals so far this season and has attracted interest from a range of English clubs including Manchester United and Arsenal.

Depoitre will have to be in terrific form if his team are to come back from their first leg 3-2 defeat.
