Spurs won 3-1, and could have scored 10, having lost meekly first to Monaco then to Bayer Leverkusen here earlier this season.
Pochettino had said that it was a priority for Spurs to make Wembley feel like home and they went some way to doing that on Wednesday night. Pochettino was delighted with the performance, which ended their Wembley troubles as well as showing that confidence has returned to a side that had a very difficult October and November.
“The performance was good,” Pochettino said after the game. “We showed that we can win here, and that was important for us. It changes the bad feeling from Monaco. We are much better since Monaco and starting to show our real quality. Now we need to move ahead, we have the opportunity to play more here [in the Europa League], and that’s important to make Wembley our home”
After beating Swansea 5-0 on Saturday, and giving Chelsea a difficult game the previous Saturday, Spurs now have some form with them. Pochettino said that they can go to Old Trafford this Sunday with more confidence than they have had for months, having recovered the feeling they had at the start of the season.
“We struggled in the last month and a half, because we had some problems but we have all the squad nearly fit and we are stronger now,” Pochettino said. “We have recovered that feeling that we lost in the last month and a half. It’s true it was a bit of a struggle to compete.”
“You can feel the team is recovering that feeling that we can win every game,” said Pochettino. “We cross that period that was difficult for us. The team has full confidence and trust in ourselves. We have players back in the squad and a good opportunity because the Europa League will start next year.”
