Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The on loan Manchester United striker scored the only goal of the tie in the 88th minute to secure Real's progression to the semi-finals.
The Arsenal great Henry, however, was less than impressed with Hernandez's emotional celebration, as he thought he should have immediately turned around to thank Ronaldo for the pass, instead of running away on his own.
The 26-year-old, who has scored six goals for the club in a struggling loan spell this season, had tapped in from close range after some fine work from the Portuguese forward.
Hernandez, known as "Chicharito" was then seen crying at the end of the match.
"I don't know about his future there," Henry said during his punditry duty for Sky Sports. "To be fair to him he doesn't usually play.
"Tonight was his opportunity and we don't even know if he's going to play after that.”
“He had a couple of chances in the game before that but I can tell you he can thank Ronaldo tonight.
"I know he went on to celebrate alone and everything but he can thank Ronaldo. For me, he has to.
“That is, for me, Ronaldo's goal. What I don't like after [the goal] is it seems like he won the World Cup [with his celebration]. Turn around and celebrate with Ronaldo."
