From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Franck Ribery yesterday lost his appeal to have his three-match ban reduced by Uefa. The Bayern Munich midfielder, 27, had hoped to face Internazionale in the Champions League final on 22 May, but will now have to serve the remaining two games of his suspension.

Bayern will now take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne in an attempt to get the ruling changed. The French international was dismissed during the first leg of Bayern's semi-final against Lyons for a foul on Lisandro Lopez and has sat out the second leg as he served the first match of his suspension.

"We will keep on fighting," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said. "We're not happy with the decision here."

Another player sweating on making the final is Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder. The Dutchman limped out of last night's Italian Cup victory against Roma after injuring his right thigh in the first minute.
