From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

"I feel fit and I have no more problems," said the Peruvian international after coming through a training session yesterday. The Dutchman Roy Makaay, Pizarro's regular partner up front, returned for Bayern in Saturday's 2-1 win at home to Borussia Mönchen-gladbach. Both Makaay and Pizarro missed Bayern's 4-2 defeat in the quarter-final first leg in London last week.
Their return should boost the German side's chances of staging a recovery. Pizarro scored two of the goals in Bayern's 3-1 win over Arsenal at the Olympic Stadium in the previous round, while Makaay has notched up seven goals in the competition this season.
In France, two goals by Pierre-Alain Frau gave leaders Lyon, who visit PSV Eindhoven in the Champions' League on Wednesday, a hard-earned 2-2 draw at struggling Nantes on Saturday to extend their lead in Ligue 1 to 14 points.
Marseilles conceded more ground when they lost 1-0 at Racing Strasbourg, Mamadou Niang netting the winner in stoppage time. Lyon have 66 points from 32 games, while Marseilles are level on 52 points with second-placed Lille who have a game in hand.
