It would seem that sending off Cristiano Ronaldo is not a good idea.

The Ballon d'Or winner was shown a red card in Real Madrid's draw with Athletic Bilbao on Sunday when he reacted to a shove by Carlos Gurpegi and then got involved in a confrontation with Ander Iturraspe.

While Ronaldo has been banned for three matches for his actions, it would seem the referee is in for a lengthier ban.

Spanish radio station Cadena Cope report that Miguel Angel Ayza Gamez has been suspended for a month due to his performance in Sunday's match.

It's also reported that Ayza Gamez will not officiate any more of Real Madrid's games this season. The move by the Spanish League's Refereeing Technical Committee is understood to have stemmed from the official changing his story about the incident involving Ronaldo.

Real Madrid are contesting Ronaldo's ban and this latest development seems only likely to help their case.

Real Madrid are currently three points behind La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid and level on points with Barcelona.
