From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It's a big game for…

Memphis Depay: After moving from PSV for £25 million in the summer the Dutch forward will be eager to impress both former and current employers.

Things may not be so easy though as former coach of the Dutch side, Aad De Mos, said Columbian defender Santiago Arias will “eat him alive”.

Weird stat…

1996: United have not lost an opening Champions League group match since they lost 1-0 away at Juventus in 1996. Alen Boksic scored the only goal of the game on the Italian’s way to the final. They lost out to Borussia Dortmund who knocked United out in the semi-finals.

Remember when…

Gordon Strachan scored a penalty in the 93rd minute against PSV in 1984 to snatch the win in extra time of the second round UEFA Cup tie. United would go on to lose 5-4 on penalties in the quarter-finals to Videton.

PSV Player to watch…

Luuk de Jong: The former Newcastle loanee has started the season in red hot form netting five goals in five games for his club. The 25-year-old, who signed for £5m from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014, scored 25 times for the Dutch side last year on their way to the title.
