From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…

Fernando Torres: Without a goal in six appearances during the current Champions League campaign, the 31-year-old will be desperate to get on the score sheet in his final European tournament with boyhood club, Atletico Madrid. The striker will depart the Vicente Calderon at the end of the season, but will first hope to take Atletico as far as possible in the knock-out stages, starting with reaching the quarter-finals. Torres has scored only four goals all season and time is running out for him to end his time at the club on a high.

Best stat…

2: PSV have lost just two of their 12 meetings with Spanish clubs at home, which includes a 3-0 defeat to their opponents, Atletico Madrid. However, they are yet to win in 12 trips to Spain.

Remember when…

PSV came from behind to beat CSKA Moscow 2-1 back in December, ensuring they reached the last-16 of the Champions League ahead of Manchester United, finishing second in Group B.

Player to watch…

Antoine Griezmann: With four goals, the Frenchman is Atletico Madrid’s top scorer in the Champions League and has been a major threat for the Spanish outfit during the group stages. The 24-year-old is a talent that can sometimes slip under the radar, but was largely influential in Atletico’s attacking play earlier in the competition and will undoubtedly cause PSV a threat this time around.
