From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Hannover and Germany goalkeeper Robert Enke is set for a spell on the sidelines due to a mystery illness.

The 32-year-old was forced out of Germany's clash with Azerbaijan last week and is undergoing tests to determine the nature of the problem, meaning that he will definitely miss the game against Borussia Dortmund this weekend.

"After discussions with sporting director Jorg Schmadtke, it was decided that Enke would not be risked for this match," a club statement read. "With Enke still waiting for a full diagnosis on his illness, Schmadtke took the decision that it made no sense risking the keeper this weekend.

"Final test results should not be expected before the end of the week. Until the diagnosis, Robert will only be participating in a light individual training."

Out-of-favour Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni has vowed to try and force his way back into coach Louis van Gaal's plans at the Allianz Arena.

The 32-year-old Italy international has not featured for Bayern this term and had been expected to leave the club before the transfer window slammed shut.

However, after a move failed to materialise, Toni has pledged to do all he can to persuade van Gaal to change his plans.

Toni said: "I know that I am not his ideal striker, but it is possible that the coach changes his mind. I am convinced I have the quality. I really want to play. I am ready for the challenge.

"I want to give everything for Bayern. I want to keep scoring goals here and I think I am capable of that."
